At the rescheduled White House Correspondents Dinner, many members of President Trump’s cabinet joined news organizations for a social evening and presentation of journalism awards. The Waldorf Astoria Hotel, formerly owned by President Trump, was selected due to security needs as well as availability to accommodate 700 in the ballroom.
After a series of awards presentations, the President, attending his first WHCA dinner as president, gave a long speech, which some found funny and others uncomfortable.
“I could never have done the speech that I had ready just a short while. Oh, that was going to be a doozy. I was so psyched. I was going to rip people,” Trump said. “Something changed, and it’s really for the better. But I just wouldn’t want to do that.”
“But we’ll do a little ripping if you don’t mind,” he added.
Weijia Jiang, the 2025-2026 White House Correspondents President and host for the evening, gave a compelling speech about how she worked her way to the top of the industry despite very humble roots.
The audience was spellbound by a performance from Oz Perelman, the mentalist, who was rescheduled from the original April date. He somehow guessed the serial numbers on Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche’s $20 bill in his pocket.
The room had representatives from most of the news organizations that cover the White House. Members of the Trump Administration included Cabinet members Doug Burgham, Howard Lutnick, Robert F. Kennedy, and administration officials Chris Klomp, Alex Flemister, Jim Goyer, and Patrick Witt.
