Sex and the City’s Cynthia Nixon Mulls Run for NY Governor

Another celebrity is seriously considering joining the ranks of actors-turned-politicians like Al Franken, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sonny Bono, and Frank Grandy. Cynthia Nixon, of HBO’s “Sex and the City” fame, is reportedly weighing her options in a potential primary showdown with Andrew Cuomo, who many see as a strong contender for a presidential run in 2020, for governor of New York. While she is yet to make any sort of official announcement, she “is in serious conversations about jumping in and has begun reaching out to potential campaign staffers,” according to a new report in Politico.

Nixon has been vocal in her criticism of both Donald Trump and Governor Cuomo. In an op-ed published by CNN in January, she wrote, “President Trump’s first year in office has been a dark year for many in America. For those of us who value equal rights for all, or economic and racial justice, or want to combat climate change, we’ve taken huge steps backwards.”

Governor Cuomo, who many see as a strong contender for a presidential run in 2020, and his team were reportedly caught off guard by the news. Politico claims that the reelection campaign has not done any polling on Nixon or any other potential primary opponent.

You can read Politico’s full report on Nixon here.

The Bittersweet Tuesday Job Announcements

January 29, 2013 By WHC Insider

Daily Beast Bipartisan Brunch
It’s a rough day if you’re Ray LaHood or a CNN employee–but congratulations John Kerry!

Starting out with the good news today is John Kerry was unanimously approved by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. That was the expected announcement this week. CNN, however, decided that such a thing was too boring for a Tuesday and launched a mass exodus/hiring spree just to see if we can keep up.

Chris Cuomo is leaving ABC for CNN.The younger brother of Andrew will take point as morning anchor for CNN, which is a rough spot since that’s where Soledad O’Brien is supposed to sit. Matt Whitaker,an executive vice president and managing editor, announced this morning that he’s leaving the network due to new CEO Jeff Zucker‘s “forceful ideas about where to take CNN’s reporting, programming and brand.” Also out? Long-time husband-and-wife duo James Carville and Mary Matalin. Erick Erickson is also gone, but where else could he find an opening?

In the flurry of media news, it seems someone confused Ray LaHood causing him to announce his resignation as transportation secretary.

“I want to thank Secretary LaHood for his dedication, his hard work, and his years of service to the American people — including the outstanding work he’s done over the last four years as Secretary of Transportation,” the president said in a statement.

No other information was given from the former republican Representative from Illinois. It’s a strange ebb and flow around CNN and the cabinet these days.

edit: We mixed our Cuomos up! Andrew Cuomo is Chris’ brother and current governor of New York. Mario is the former governor of New York and father to both Andrew and Chris. We regret the error.

Rhoda Glickman to Run NY State’s Film, Arts & Cultural Development Office

April 6, 2012 By WHC Insider

Congratulations to arts advocate Rhoda Glickman who is New York-bound  as the new head of Film, Arts & Cultural Development for the great State of New York.  Glickman isn’t abandoning DC altogether – she’ll come home on weekends – but the chance to rejoin her old boss Governor Andrew Cuomo, and be immersed in the world of film, art and culture was too good to pass up.

Currently the Director for Government Relations for the Corporation for National and Community Service, Glickman’s new gig will focus on boosting jobs as well as growing and supporting New York State’s already successful film and arts world.

A longtime supporter of funding for the arts, Glickman spent 14 years as Executive Director of the bi-partisan Congressional Arts Caucus, advising members on federal funding for the arts.

You can count on lots of movie talk at the Glickman family dinner– husband Dan Glickman is the former president of the Motion Picture Association of America, son Jon produced “Rush Hour” and is president of MGM Studios, and daughter Amy is a PR Consultant in NY.
